Back to the Journey

Back to the Journey

It’s been a while since I last posted here. In that time, I’ve wandered further than I ever expected, both in travel and in how I approach creativity. The past couple of years have been about exploring new places while also returning to some old favorites. I made my first trip to Alaska, spent last Christmas back in Antarctica, and I’m already planning a third visit there for next year.

Travel has started to shift for me too. I’ve been moving away from cruising and leaning more toward slower, more grounded ways of exploring. I want more than quick stops and surface impressions. I want to spend time with each place, get a feel for the rhythm of daily life, and connect with the culture.

Creatively, I’ve been drawn more and more to analog mediums like sketchbooks, watercolor, and journaling. Working this way slows me down, gives me space to reflect, and lets me focus on feeling and atmosphere instead of technical perfection. Two ideas I keep coming back to are Ichigo Ichie (the beauty of a moment that can’t be repeated) and Wabi Sabi (finding meaning in imperfection). They’ve become touchstones for how I approach both art and life.

So what does that mean here? Going forward, I want this blog to reflect all of it. You’ll find:

  • Stories from my travels, both the big adventures and the quiet in-between moments
  • A look at how I plan and prepare for trips, including the gear that comes with me
  • Reflections on the “why” behind what I do, not just the “what”
  • Pages from my sketchbooks and journals, works in progress, and other pieces of the creative process

This space is going to be a mix of travel, art, and reflection. A way of documenting where I’ve been, where I’m going, and how I’m experiencing the world along the way. I hope you’ll come along with me.
